Estimated time to crack

Approximate average time under different guessing speeds. Real attacks may be faster or slower.

Estimate
Online, rate limited10 guesses per second
Online, no throttling10,000 guesses per second
Offline, slow hash1 million guesses per second
Offline, fast hash100 billion guesses per second

These figures are educational estimates, not guarantees. Reused, leaked, or predictable passwords can be compromised immediately regardless of length.

About the Password Strength Checker

This tool evaluates a password using length, character variety, repetition, common words, keyboard patterns, dates, and other predictable structures. The result is intended to help you improve a password—not to certify that an account is impossible to compromise.

How the strength score works

The checker begins with a mathematical estimate based on length and the apparent character pool. It then lowers that estimate when it detects patterns that attackers commonly prioritize, including repeated chunks, sequences, common passwords, dates, and familiar keyboard paths.

Understanding crack-time estimates

Crack time depends heavily on how a website stores passwords, how many guesses an attacker can make, and whether the password has already appeared in a data leak. The four scenarios shown above are simplified comparisons and should be treated as educational estimates.

Strong password habits

  • Use a different password for every important account.
  • Prefer long, randomly generated passwords or long passphrases.
  • Store passwords in a trusted password manager.
  • Enable multi-factor authentication whenever it is available.
  • Change a password immediately if a service reports a breach.

Privacy

The checker runs entirely inside your browser. It does not send your password to Toolslight, add it to the page address, store it in cookies, or save it in local storage.
